Research

The Africa Medical and Behavioral Sciences Organization (AMBSO) is a Ugandan research institution dedicated to improving public health through innovative clinical, epidemiological, and behavioral research. Since its establishment, AMBSO has contributed significantly to knowledge on HIV prevention, infectious diseases, mental health, gender-based violence, and non-communicable diseases across Uganda.

AMBSO conducts community-based and clinical research aimed at generating evidence that informs health policy, strengthens healthcare systems, and improves the well-being of vulnerable populations. Through its Population Health Surveillance (APHS) platform, the organization monitors health trends in rural, urban, fishing, and semi-urban communities, creating one of Uganda’s most diverse public health research cohorts.

The organization is currently involved in several important studies, including the PURPOSE 1 study focused on HIV prevention among vulnerable populations, the COBI study which examines community and behavioral health outcomes, and the ACCESS study that seeks to improve equitable access to healthcare services and interventions. AMBSO also collaborates with national and international universities, research institutions, and public health organizations to deliver high-quality evidence-based research.

Through these initiatives, AMBSO continues to transform communities through research, training, and service delivery while contributing to global scientific knowledge.
