Gender Based Violence (GBV); Prevention and Response

AMBSO implemented a community behavioral intervention to counter gender based violence through engagement of community activists. AMBSO identified and trained 45 community activists in Wakiso District and supported implementation of the SASA! approach to prevent and respond to gender-based violence. Through the community activists, village meetings and home visits were conducted to increase awareness and motivate community-based handling of GBV. In the process, capacity was built in the communities to support case reporting and management. The program also trained community partners including the Police, Community organizations, religious leaders and members of development groups for women and men.

AMBSO also utilized the POWER poster as a community education and dialogue tool to reinforce key messages on gender equality, healthy relationships, non-violent conflict resolution, and prevention of gender-based violence.
